Mona Broschár
Mona Broschár (*b. 1985, Bad Säckingen, Germany) is a painter based in Leipzig. She studied Fine Art at Camberwell College of Arts in London and completed a Master's degree in Painting and Printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB), where she later served as Junior Professor.
Working at the intersection of figuration and abstraction, Broschár investigates contemporary image culture and the mechanisms of desire that shape our relationship to objects, bodies and consumption. Her paintings draw from a highly personal archive of sweets, decorative surfaces, packaging, textiles and everyday commodities. Through processes of enlargement, fragmentation and repetition, these seemingly familiar motifs are transformed into ambiguous visual constructions that oscillate between attraction and unease.
Central to her practice is the question of how images seduce. Bright colours, glossy textures and meticulously rendered surfaces initially evoke pleasure and accessibility, yet beneath their visual appeal lies a subtle sense of tension. The artist is interested in the psychological and cultural dimensions embedded within objects of consumption, exploring how desire, excess, vulnerability and control become encoded in visual form.
Broschár's paintings often hover between representation and abstraction. Cropped perspectives, shifts in scale and unexpected juxtapositions destabilise the viewer's perception, allowing ordinary objects to acquire a sculptural, bodily or even surreal presence. In doing so, her work reveals the latent narratives and emotional projections that inhabit the imagery of everyday life.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in both institutional and gallery contexts, including at Kunsthalle Basel, Kunsthalle Darmstadt and Kunstmuseum Thun, as well as at major art fairs such as Art Cologne, ARCO Madrid, London Art Fair and Dallas Art Fair. Solo exhibitions have been presented at L21 Gallery (Palma de Mallorca), Gallery Droste (Düsseldorf) and Maurer Gallery (Frankfurt), among others.
Broschár's work has been featured in numerous publications and media contributions and is held in public and private collections, including the Art Collection of Sparkasse Leipzig, the Collection of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMU), and the Preuss Collection, Stuttgart.
